Today we are living in a world which is capable, in itself, of performing every possible task required. Just like our computers, we have the feature of WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get)  in our lives as well. Its just a matter of seconds to incorporate an idea that you might have been contemplating since long and fantasizing about turning it into reality!  

Trying making a trip back to times which didn’t have the existence of  a perfect shelter, the first thought that pops up in my mind is “How could they manage surviving in so severe conditions!!”. But the fact is they did because they had to improve and provide a pathway for the world we are living in today. Starting from the ill-equipped shelters, we evolved into houses and then there were huge and beautiful mansions. In feild of transport as well, from the times we had carts, we have reached today when we are facilitated with cars and airbuses.

But did we ever realise that with advancements and technological developments, we are advancing more and more towards various hazards and diseases. Nobody ever encountered the fatal problems of AIDS and Cancer in those times, nor was there the existing devastating terrorism and accidents! Airplanes were a major achievement of mankind, but it brought along with it plane crashes and hijacks! Peace of mind is something that everybody hesitates to confess they have. We are living, sometimes I feel, just for the heck of it. As a mater of tradition, we are born, we grow up learning in a good school, continue our education in some good feild of studies to make sure of our earnings, engage ourselves in a family and keep living till the end of time.

But they say science is getting more and more comforts to us! World is shrinking with advanced techniques of communications. Internet being one major invention that cannot be left out in this respect. Wi-fi and broadband being more advancer! And then with these we have the atomic and nuclear bombs having the capability of destroying the whole planet in a fraction of second! Amazing it sounds that the hands which invent medicines to cure the humanity strives to bring it to a full stop with these weapons! Who knows whats going to happen the next moment in this digital world of 0’s and 1’s? We are at 1 today, we might be at 0 tomorrow! Friends, its now or never is all I want to say. Don’t postpone anything to tomorrow and make the most of it because they say.. THE WORLD IS CHANGING!

That’s the profile of a CEan! ‘CEan’ is our discovery which stands for ‘Crazy Engineers’ team member. No doubt, the great CE-Dream is coming into reality.

The seniors & the juniors, we have them all. The 700+ strong CEan team continues to build a strong network of engineers across the world. “But what do you guys do?” is a question frequently asked. Well, my imagination is limited. This special class of people (called ‘Engineers’) has been turning all the screws since ages. We are proud to say that we have ‘built’ a world. Possibilities are countless. The ultimate aim remains fixed – we’ll make the world a better place to live.

I repeat: We’ll make the world a better place to live.

Imagine thousands of engineers from all over the world coming together to innovate, to develop best computers, beautiful buildings, fastest & safest planes, unsinkable ships, best robots. Call me crazy; I’m a CEan!

It was only one of our numerous normal days when me and my friend were down in the hostel net lab browsing the internet. Net surfing has always been a very obligatory part of our daily routine especially in college. Sitting on the adjacent systems, a new and unfamiliar page on her screen caught my attention. It seemed she was quite known to it. Being known to all her do’s and don’ts, I felt an urge to ask her about it. But I knew I had to wait till we get back to our room. Next one hour we passed surfing our own sites, which usually consist of our mail boxes and may be a few other sites too. It was then she said , “are you over with it?? Shall we move upstairs??”. And there I was, replying “ sure”.
Fifteen minutes had already passed we were in the room silently reading the newspapers or novels when suddenly I realized I was to ask my friend something. So finally I broke the silence asking her about the unknown-to-me website. After a teaspoon of descriptions, I was able to explain her the page I was talking about. To that she replied “ohh!!! You are talking about that website ???”. We had our third room mate as well present there listening to our chirps.
Now it was that very day when for the first time I came to know about crazyengineers.com. She was there telling us about completely what the site is all about. She told us about the tasks that are undertaken, the way people reply to each other, about the members and ofcourse about the administrator. She sounded pretty actively involved into the working of the forums of the website. May be it was natural for her telling us about the CE with so much excitement but it hardly made an impressive picture of it in front of the two of us. But still somewhere I felt that I should visit it atleast once.
Finally one fine day I managed to remember that I had to visit the CE. So I entered the CE portal. I got myself registered. I took 10 minutes going through various threads and features of the site. candidly I didn’t find it appealing. I had no confirmed notion of visiting it again. I wondered why my friend was so excited about it. But I always believe in giving things a second chance so one day when I wasn’t having much to surf, I made my second visit to the site. Strangely it appeared much more interesting this time and I was impressed with the quality of the forums. I don’t know why, but I was sure I was going to visit it time and again. Then there was a third visit very shortly and another and another… and within a month there was no looking back!! I was regular with CE and I was highly appealed by its technical nature.
Now there were constant discussions of CE in our room. We would discuss all our daily experiences with CE. It was then our third room mate also felt like joining it. Soon it was all three of us discussing how helpful CE has been in increasing our knowledge in various fields. And here we are me – Aashima, my friend – Neha and my third room mate – Aditi as integral parts of the CE forums!!!

The Oxford Dictionary has a number of definitions for an Engineer. One of which is who designs, constructs and manages. Here is an effort by engineers to unite all the engineers all over the world to make it a better place to live.

Here is my first blog as a CEan on the CEan blog. Technology has been fast growing over the recent decades. And the most astonishing fact is that the newly build industry has been a valued contribution for the growth; yes I am talking about Information Technology (IT).This field has attracted engineers from each and every field civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics, chemical engineers changing the track and jumping into this common pool. Talking about the ethics of the profession, why an engineer feels the need to change the career path? I have highlighted ‘career path’ with the sole purpose of stressing the point that most of us take up engineering blindly. I think over 93% of the current professionals will agree with me over this point. Taking up a profession at the under graduate level mostly is depended on a lot of factors like marks, available seats in the desired faculty or college rather having no knowledge of as to which college is the best moreover how important it is to get into a good college and most importantly parent’s opinion/advice is on the top of the priority lists for most of the population. But sadly it’s only the marks scored by the candidate that is considered to be the whole and sole reason for an individual to get or loose the admission.

Considering the Indian scenario coaching classes encash this fact beautifully and make a lot of profits. The parents enroll their child into one of the classes which have impressive advertisements; moreover the classes which manage to pocket the top scorers and misguide the parents and students. The students are pressurized by growing competition but the more successful are plum fees of these coaching classes and the extra ordinary stress of lectures and the so called simulated tests. And most recently the government has taken a step? to produce quality engineers! And that step is the pre entrance test. They feel that this probably will be an effective measure to reduce the competition or moreover make it a healthy one! I personally strongly disagree with this step and feel that it only increases the pressure on the examinee to perform well with no assurity that the stress will definitely result into good marks and the assurity that the examinee will land up into a good college if he overcomes the stress and scores good marks. Rather the effective step will be to change and update the syllabus regularly and keep the paper pattern changing. The Indian education system strongly needs a complete makeover !
